What is TeleTriage?

Teletriage is a veterinary service provided by electronic means. A teletriage appointment allows a veterinarian to provide the safe and timely evaluation and management of a pet’s medical condition in a potentially critical situation – even when they are unable to see the patient in person. Using an electronic means, such as video chat, a veterinarian who offers teletriage appointments can help pet owners care for their pets and make recommendations regarding the need for emergency care to stabilize the pet.

Signs Your Pet Needs Emergency Care

Sometimes it can be tough to assess whether a pet needs immediate, emergency care or if they will be okay waiting for a regular in-person appointment during business hours.

Some signs that indicate a pet requires immediate care include:

  • Pet ingested a toxic substance
  • Persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Facial swelling, vomiting, or diarrhea following vaccination
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Lack of bowel movements
  • Eye injury
  • Traumatic injury
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Hyperthermia (heat stroke)
  • Seizures
  • Collapse or fainting

If your pet has any of these symptoms, we recommend immediately contacting an emergency veterinarian near you.
