In this video, Dr. Adar of Video VetChat discusses why it’s important to spay or neuter your cat.
Why should I neuter my male cat?
Neutering your male cats helps prevent them from contracting FIV, the feline equivalent of HIV. They can contract FIV from fighting with other outdoor cats (scratching, biting, etc.).
Why should I spay my female cat?
Spaying your female cats prevents them from going into heat when they may get pregnant by another outdoor cat and bring an unwanted litter of cats home. Additionally, there are some health benefits to spaying your cat that may help them live a longer, healthier life.
When should I spay/neuter my outdoor cat?
You can neuter your male cat as early as 4 months. Most often we recommend spaying between 5-7 months. Bring your cat to your vet and they will recommend the timing that is best for your feline friend!
